Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland

Coca-Cola came to Ireland in 1952, following the set up of the first bottling company in the country, Munster Bottlers of Cork. The plant opening on May 9th 1952 was officiated by the then Parliamentary Secretary, Jack Lynch, who later became Taoiseach. Following on the success of Munster Bottlers, a short time later two other companies opened plants, one in Dublin servicing the Leinster area and the other in Tuam servicing the West of Ireland. In time they were all to consolidate into a single operation covering all of the Republic of Ireland. Today, that one company, Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland, produce and distribute The Coca-Cola Company brands for the Irish Market.

Coca-Cola Bottlers Ulster

In 1938 local businessman Mr Tom Robinson from Ulster Ice and Cold Stores wrote a letter to the Coca-Cola Company in London expressing an interest in setting up the franchise in Northern Ireland. Coca-Cola's strategy was to supply free ice to any retailer agreeing to sell Coca-Cola however, owners of the ice-making plant in NI were not interested in investing in bottling Coca-Cola. Mr Robinson accepted the franchise for the Belfast district and formed the Ulster Iced Drinks Company.
