Winners of Coca-Cola Irish Cup Crowned
Members of Reading Football Club emerged victorious as they were crowned winners of the inaugural Coca-Cola Irish Cup, which took place at the AUL complex in Dublin from 13th - 15th July.
The grassroots football competition attracted over 8,000 spectators, who watched the English youth club side compete against other elite football teams from across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the UK and Europe. The three day tournament culminated in a 2-1 victory for Reading FC against fellow English side, West Bromwich Albion. Dutch team Ajax 1997’s and an Irish representative youth side also took part.
In the non-elite section, a penalty shoot-out led to Dublin side St. Kevin’s 9-8 triumph over their local rivals Shelbourne United. 42 teams and over 1,000 participants were involved in the various age grade competitions at the North Dublin football venue. Commenting on behalf of title sponsor Coca-Cola HBC Ireland, Events Manager, Robert Crabbe said:
